Richard Welch Sr.

Mar 6, 2026

Richard Welch Sr., formerly of Nashua, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, in Fort Myers. He was 84 years old. Born on May 19, 1941, in Brighton, MA Richard was the beloved son of Paul and Edith (Berrenberg) Welch.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a member of the Honor Guard, performing burial services for fallen soldiers — a role he carried out with deep respect and solemn pride.

Richard met the love of his life on a blind date that was originally meant for her roommate. After only a few dates, he moved her to Massachusetts, and they were married — beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, travel, and adventure. Together they especially enjoyed cruising and seeing new places.

A true “people person” in every sense of the word, Richard built a long and successful career in sales. His personality was BIG — he loved talking to people and was genuinely interested in what others had to say. He had a gift for connection, and no short story ever stayed short when he was telling it. Each tale became unforgettable, delivered with passion, detail, and that infectious smile and laugh everyone knew so well.

He lived by strong convictions and was deeply committed to being the best father and provider he could possibly be. Principled, honest, and a man of unwavering integrity, Richard taught his family the importance of looking people in the eye, speaking the truth with respect and professionalism, and standing firm in one’s beliefs. He was never overly concerned with what others thought of him — a trait that made him unapologetically authentic.

A deeply social man, Richard loved his community and volunteered with organizations including Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and The Club National. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and later in life became devoted to golf. In his younger years, he was an avid runner, proudly completing both the Boston Marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon.

Richard found his greatest joy in watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was their biggest fan — always cheering loudly from the sidelines.

He loved the simple pleasures of life: a good whiskey or beer, the thrill of gambling, karaoke (even though he could not carry a tune), and dancing the entire night at weddings and parties — even if his enthusiastic moves occasionally raised a few eyebrows. What he may have lacked in rhythm, he more than made up for in spirit.

Affectionately known as “Dickie” to those closest to him, Richard Welch leaves behind a legacy of laughter, integrity, love, and unforgettable stories. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his children Richard Welch Jr. (Beth), Kerry Welch (Patty), and Michael Welch (Amy); his two grandchildren Colton Welch and Braeden Welch; his brothers David Welch, Paul Welch and James Welch; his sister Patty Welch Bird; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Judith, he was predeceased by his parents and his sister Marie Welch.

Family and friends are invited to Richard’s Visitation on THURSDAY, March 19th from 4 until 7 PM at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. His funeral mass will take place on FRIDAY, March 20th at 10 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 West Hollis Street, Nashua. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
