Feb 5, 2026

Thomas Manuel Clancy 91, of Merrimack, NH passed peacefully in the comfort of his home, Monday, February 2, 2026.

Thomas (Tom) was born in Boston, MA on September 8, 1934, a son of the late James H. Clancy and Jeannette L. (Carline) Clancy. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Mahoney, and brother James Clancy. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School in Malden, MA, and was a communicant of Parish of the Resurrection, Nashua, NH, for nearly sixty years.

Tom married his high school sweetheart, Alice (Breen) on July 4, 1957, and enjoyed over 68 years of love and friendship. About ten years ago he told one of his daughters that he wished he were 18 again because he wanted to do life all over with Mom. Along with his wife Alice, he is survived by two daughters Kathleen and husband Mark Santos of Amherst, NH, and Joanne and husband William Cabell of Merrimack, NH, three sons Thomas and husband Kurt Marohn of Clermont, FL, Timothy and wife Kristin of Nashua, NH, Christopher and wife Kerry of Carlsbad, CA, and nine grandchildren Brianna and Tyler Santos, Megan Awada, Devon and her husband Brent Viator, and Ryan Clancy, Casey, Jocelyn and Alyssa Clancy, and Mckenna Clancy, and three great grandchildren Brooklynn, Savannah, and Drew Johanna, and many nieces and nephews.

Tom joined General Electric where he graduated from the Tool and Die Making program and attended night school at MIT. He continued his education at Tufts University, where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering cum laude. Upon graduation, he returned to General Electric and was involved with many research programs ending in Syracuse, NY, working on large-screen television systems. During this period, he attended Union College in Schenectady, NY, where he earned an MS in Physics.

After moving to Nashua, NH in 1968, Tom worked for Sanders Associates and its successor companies for 30 years. He began by developing countermeasures techniques for infrared missiles and advanced in the engineering and management fields. He made significant contributions to many electronic warfare systems. Many of these systems are still protecting our service men and women today. Upon retirement in 1997 he was Director of Air Force Programs in the Countermeasures Division. During his career he earned many awards for his technical and management achievements.

Tom loved to travel and enjoyed the outdoors. He liked skiing, swimming, boating, and fishing. After retirement, he enjoyed learning to use the computer and internet, a good game of bridge, model trains and tracing the family genealogy. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and the many wonderful times they had together, especially at Newfound Lake. Tom was known for his hearty laugh, and was always in a good mood. He recently commented on what a great life he has had and how lucky he was to have spent it with his wife and family.

In his final months, in addition to his family, Tom was fortunate to have compassionate caregivers including Dr. Ashima Handa, Kenchael, Cyntia, Jill, Lisa and especially Nadine and Diane.

Whether you called him Tom, Dad, Papa, or Uncle, he was truly loved by all and will be greatly missed. Anyone who knew Tom knows that he hated wakes, therefore there will be no calling hours to respect his wishes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 9, at 11 a.m. at Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, NH. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Michele Mosher’s Quadriplegia Recovery Fund, https://gofund.me/8dce66e81.
