David Hodge Coleman
David Hodge Coleman, 83, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away surrounded by comfort, care, and family on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
Born on July 18, 1942, in Nashua, NH, David was the son of the late Roy Coleman and Eleanor (Hodge) Coleman. A lifelong Nashua resident, he attended Nashua schools and went on to earn a teaching degree from New England College. He was also an avid sports player in the Nashua schools and city sports. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
David dedicated more than 35 years to the Nashua School District, where he made a lasting impact as both a teacher and a coach. While there, he was far more than just a teacher and coach–he was a mentor and steady presence to generations of students and athletes. He coached baseball, football, and basketball, sharing his passion for sports and teamwork.
On May 30, 1964, David married the love of his life, Gail (LaForest) Coleman, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on family and faith, as they lovingly raised four children together.
David was an avid sports enthusiast who especially loved football, baseball, and basketball, and he found great joy in coaching others. He also cherished time spent at the beach and was known for his outgoing, social nature. As a devoted Catholic, David remained a faithful and active churchgoer throughout his life. He held a deep love for animals, particularly his beloved dogs.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gail Coleman; his daughter, Meghan Coleman; and his sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Robert Cudworth.
David is survived by his loving children: Kerri Fierley and her husband Nathan Fierley, Kevin Coleman and his wife Laura Coleman, and Ryan Coleman. He was a proud grandfather to Mason, Piper, and Kody, who brought him endless pride. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
David’s greatest pride was his family, and his greatest gift was mentoring generations of athletes. He will be remembered for his steady guidance and the many lives he touched–as a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and friend. His influence will continue to be felt for generations.
