Dorothy May (Dupont) Hurley

Dorothy May (Dupont) Hurley of Merrimack, NH and Chicopee, MA passed away peacefully at Hillsborough County Nursing Home on January 1, 2026, just five days shy of her 99th birthday.

Dot was born in Taunton, MA on January 6, 1927 to Joseph and Rose (Faria) Dupont. When Dot was a young girl, her family moved from New Bedford to Chicopee, MA where she met her future husband, Bill Hurley. They were married on August 9, 1947, and they raised five children together.

Dot was a crossing guard in Chicopee for 25 years. She was also a professional seamstress and knitter who used her talents to sew dresses for entire bridal parties and knit sweaters and hats as part of the uniform for the members of the Chicopee St. Patrick’s Parade Committee.

After her husband’s passing, she lived with her son Michael and his children until 1994 when she moved to Merrimack to live with her daughter Pat.

Dot is survived by her children – Michael (Deborah Farrar) of Chicopee, James (Patricia) of Virginia Beach, VA, Patricia McGregor of Merrimack, NH, and Noreen Ruel (Glenn DiCristofaro) of Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition, she leaves fourteen grandchildren – Erin Hurley, Timothy Hurley, Kate Hurley, Kerry Hurley, Richard Hurley, Jamie Ruel, Daniel McGregor, Ryan Ruel, William McGregor, Laura McGregor, Michael Hurley, Elizabeth Ruel, Sean Hurley, and Marikate Hurley – and nine great-grandchildren, her daughter-in-law Patricia Hurley and sister-in-law Mary (Conroy) Dupont, both of Chicopee. She is predeceased by her husband William J. Hurley, Sr., her son William J. Hurley, Jr., and her siblings Irene Niemiec, George Dupont, and Joseph Dupont.

Per Dot’s wishes, there will be no services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
