Joanne Marie (Scopa) Delfino

Dec 9, 2025

Joanne Marie (Scopa) Delfino, 82, longtime resident of Merrimack, NH passed away on Thursday, December 4th, 2025 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH after a short period of declining health.

She was born in Chelsea, MA on January 21st, 1943, daughter of the late Joseph A. and Carmella M. (Dell’Orfano) Scopa. Raised in Chelsea, she was a graduate of Chelsea High School and later studied early childhood education at Rivier College in Nashua.

Joanne worked as a paraeducator for the Merrimack School District for many years until her retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family at get-togethers or going out to lunch, having coffee and playing cards with her close friends and neighbors, and taking rides and walks with her favorite furry pal, her little dog Elmo. Her family often joked with her that she had the cleanest, most organized house in Merrimack. Her kindness and generosity touched everyone she met, and she had a way of welcoming each person as if she had known them forever.

Along with her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband of 43 years, Frank Delfino in 2018 and her son Christopher in 2009.

She will be forever loved and remembered by her brother Michael Scopa Sr., and his partner Michelle Scribner of Nashua, her sister-in-law Carol Scopa-Bilodeau and her husband Russ of Merrimack, her sister-in-law Karen Jasper and her partner Janet Beatie of Provincetown, MA, her niece Jessica Cochrane and her husband Michael of Natick, MA, her niece and goddaughter Holly Cirillo and her husband Jim of Merrimack, her nephew Michael Scopa Jr. of South Boston, MA, and her beloved cousins Mimi Costa, Patricia McCarthy, Chuckie McCarthy, and Susan McCarthy, and several other cousins, nieces and nephews, including her great nephews and nieces Ryan and Leah Cirillo, and Ryan, Drew, Logan, and Reese Cochrane.

In accordance with her wishes, services will be held privately for the family at a later date.

For those who wish, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
