Richard “Dick” Gillespie

Richard “Dick” Gillespie, 78, of Nashua, NH, passed away, on November 3, 2025. He was born in Colchester, Vermont, on December 19, 1946, son of the late Claude Gillespie and Dorothy (Gooding) Gillespie.

He was the loving husband of Dorothy “Dot” (Schwalje) Gillespie, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. They were married on June 6, 1970, in Metuchen, New Jersey.

Dick was a graduate of South Burlington High School and went on to attend the University of Vermont, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology. He proudly served in the Vermont National Guard for six years, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Throughout his professional career, Dick worked as a structural geologist for Stone & Webster Engineering, specializing in site studies for nuclear power plants at home and abroad. He was a dedicated and meticulous professional who took great pride in his work.

A longtime resident of Nashua, he served eight years on the Conservation Commission and 20 years on the Mine Falls Park Committee. He organized and lead trail repair projects drawing upon his understanding of soils and water. He was a quiet leader and a steward of Nashua land.

Dick enjoyed playing Senior Softball, spending weekends at their lake house, managing finances and doing home improvement projects. He was a devoted caretaker of his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dot; and their two sons, Todd Gillespie and his wife Ashley, and Scott Gillespie. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Reagan, and Kennedy Gillespie; his sister, Eileen Loucks, and her husband Derry; his brother, Paul Gillespie, and his wife Roberta; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving, selfless person.

SERVICES: A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua, NH 03064. A memorial service will take place the following day, Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 at First Congregational Church Nashua. Family and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick’s memory may be made to the United Way of Greater Nashua, 20 Broad Street #1, Nashua, NH 03064.
