Philip K. McCarthy

Philip K. McCarthy, 70, resident of Milford, NH, died unexpectedly on September 7, 2025 at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH.

He was born in Salem, MA on October 12, 1954, a son of Ralph M. and Matilda (Kwiatkowski) McCarthy. He was raised and educated in Peabody, MA, having graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1972.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a marketing rep throughout his career for Continental Insurance, Preferred Mutual and Utica First.

Phil volunteered and helped coach many youth sports. He was a respected football official, a baseball and softball umpire and member of the NHSUA, NHBUA and the NHFOA. He had served on the board of the Amherst Patriots years ago. He was a friend and mentor to many.

In the off season, he enjoyed attending the Silver Knights as a season ticket holder for the past 12 years with his buddy Billy Mak.

Phil was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to many.

He was predeceased by a brother, William R. McCarthy; and a sister-in-law, Donna Ripley.

Family members include his wife, Cathy (McMahon) McCarthy of Milford; a daughter and son-in-law, Katelin and Matt Nelson of Derry, NH; a son, Ryan McCarthy and his fiancé Meaghan Cyr and her son Keegan of Rochester, NH; a sister, Sharon Smidt; sisters-in-law, Cynthia McCarthy, Irina McMahon, Patty Avron, and Anne McMahon; brothers-in-law, Bobby McMahon and Jim Ripley; many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are on Sunday, September 14th from 12:00pm-2:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00am in St. Patrick Cemetery, Merrimack Road, Amherst, NH.
