Marie Hassett Mellin

Marie Hassett Mellin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6th, 2025 at Bridges by EPOCH in Nashua, New Hampshire following a long-term illness. She was 78 years old.

Marie was born in Buffalo, NY on May 11, 1947, to Paul and Dorothy Hassett and grew up in the Buffalo area with her parents and four siblings. Marie’s academic excellence was evident from an early age. She earned her undergraduate degree from D’Youville College and later relocated and pursued a master’s degree in history from Boston College. Marie began her distinguished teaching career at Nashua High School where she was instrumental in establishing the Advanced Placement History program. Over the course of her tenure, she earned the admiration of students and colleagues alike for her deep knowledge, quick wit, and unwavering dedication to education. Her contributions have been recognized with many accolades including the New Hampshire Social Studies Teacher of the Year award in 2005. She retired in 2005 and leaves behind a legacy of excellence and compassion.

While teaching in Nashua, Marie met her future husband, Paul Mellin, and married in 1981. For over forty years they shared a loving partnership marked by humor, travel, and a mutual love of golf. Marie embraced her role in their blended family with grace and warmth, taking pride in her two sons, Casey and Joey Mellin. She was a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and actively supported them in their various pursuits–from sports and music to arts and academics.

Marie was a long-time member of the Nashua Country Club and an avid golfer and was known for her camaraderie in the Wednesday night ladies league. She and Paul enjoyed traveling together, often combining their love of golf with visits to family and friends along the East Coast. Marie will be remembered for her sharp intellect, her love of history and learning as well as her thoughtful gestures, and her ability to maintain lifelong friendships.

Marie is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Paul Hasset and her oldest brother, Paul. She is survived by her husband, Paul Mellin; her sons, Casey and Joey Mellin; her daughters-in-laws, Yesenia and Tracey, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings Kathleen Seibel, Joe Hassett and his wife Carol Melton, and Dorothy Hassett; and many dear friends and former students
