Martha Ann Leahy

Retired School Teacher
Martha Ann Leahy of Nashua, NH, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
She was born in Lowell, MA, on February 23, 1936, the second daughter of the late Joseph and the late Nora (Gorman) Smith.
Martha was a graduate of Lowell High School where she played clarinet in the band for three years.
She received a B.S. in Education from Lowell State College. While a student, she was employed by the Lowell Recreation Dept during the summer. Her favorite job was storyteller.
Her teaching career began at the Nathaniel Page School in Bedford, MA, where she taught for nine years. During this time, she earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Bridgewater State in MA.
On August 21, 1965, Martha married John J. Leahy of Lowell. They lived in Nashua, NH, where they raised their two sons, Sean and Patrick. When both boys attended school, Martha returned to teaching. She taught at St. Christopher School for 25 years.
John and Martha enjoyed many trips both home and abroad, but their favorite destination was their summer house in the Hyannis Park section of West Yarmouth. There, they loved to entertain relatives and friends.
After more than 50 years of marriage, Martha was predeceased by John.
She is survived by son Sean, his wife Sachiko and their children Aiko Rose and John Ichiro of Nashua, son Patrick of Pompano Beach, FL and his son Ethan James of Manchester, NH.
Martha also leaves her sister Mary Howe, her brother Joseph and his wife Donna, a sister-in-law, Joan Lenzi, all of Lowell. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert and his wife, Miriam and in laws, Richard Howe, Elizabeth and William Nangle, Elinor and James O’Connor, Marilyn and Peter Gill, Daniel and Gloria Leahy, and Albert Lenzi, and many nieces and nephews, their children and beloved friends.
The family is deeply grateful to the compassionate staff of Benchmark Senior Living at Nashua Crossings, and Fairview Senior Living in Hudson for the care and comfort they provided in her final years.
At Martha’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 9th, at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher Church in Nashua, NH.
