John (Doowhaashiidah) Howard Flint

John (Doowhaashiidah) Howard Flint, 88, of Nashua, passed away peacefully on 28 June 2025. John, one of eight children, was born on November 14, 1936, in Boston, MA, to the late Ralph M. and Cathleen H. (Palmer) Flint.
John grew up in Medford, MA and graduated high school in Barre, VT. He served 21 years in the U.S. Navy as a medic and then a nuclear engineer spending the majority of his naval career on submarines. In private life, after earning his degree, John was employed by Babcock & Wilcox as a senior nuclear engineer, residing in many states as well as in Germany.
As an avid reader and curious thinker, John had a deep love for history and science. Even as his eyesight deteriorated, John kept up with science and technology using a Merlin Pro Enhanced Vision viewer and then listening to others read.
In his younger years, John was a golfer, skier, scuba diver, and Bruin fan. His time living with the Navajo and Apache’s documenting their history, music and dance, which was previously passed verbally generation to generation, and studying to become a medicine man were the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of his life.
John was a devoted son and sibling, always the first to offer assistance wherever and however it was needed. John was predeceased by his parents, sisters Cathleen (Flint) Zechner and Martha (Flint) Dougherty and his brother Ralph Quentin Flint.
John is survived by siblings Charlotte Flint and Sandra (Flint) Desharnais of Nashua, Lelah (Flint) Costello and her husband Edward of North Reading, Ma, and Louise Flint of Hollis. Also, 11 nieces and nephews.
