Jan Hieminga

Jun 7, 2025

Jan Hieminga, age 104, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire while surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 1, 1920, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Jan was the beloved son of the late Bouwe and Maria Johanna (van der Bunt) Hieminga.

Jan was educated in the Netherlands where he earned his Master’s degree in interior design and architecture and began his career. In late 1957, Jan, with his wife and two daughters, immigrated to America where his love for precision and beauty eventually led him to pursue his own business in architecture, church and temple interiors and custom furniture design. He and his wife Jacqueline retired to Nashua, NH in 1988. He and his wife were actively involved in Community Chapel and ministering to the less fortunate in the community. Jan volunteered and served many years at The Upper Room Compassionate Ministries of Nashua. When retired, Jan also became a gifted watercolorist, skilled paper tole artist and custom framer.

Jan shared seventy-five wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jacqueline, before her passing in 2018. Together, they built a life of family, faith, and purpose. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jan is survived by his two daughters and one son-in-law, Louise Fernbacher, of Westwood, NJ and Ellen Antoinette and her husband Peter, of Nashua, NH; five beloved grandchildren and nine beloved great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a donation be made in Jan’s memory to the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief Organization. You can donate directly on their website at samaritanspurse.org or by mail at 18 Computer Drive E, Suite #104, Albany, New York 12205.
