Paul Francis Meehan

Paul Francis Meehan, age 71, of Merrimack, New Hampshire passed away on June 2, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
He was predeceased by his mother, Faye Meehan in 1975 and his father, John Meehan in 1984.
Paul was born in Nantucket. His family also lived briefly in Cyprus before moving to Malden, Massachusetts and eventually New Hampshire.
As a child, Paul loved all things ancient and historic. He used to create underground forts and carved his own arrows and hatchets. As he grew older, his love of history turned to collecting a variety of objects such as antiques, canes, walking sticks, arrowheads, and all kinds of handheld knives. Paul loved all types of old cars. His prized possession was a 1932 Ford “Deuce” Coupe which he affectionally referred to as “Milner” from the movie American Graffiti.
Paul was always a hard worker, starting at age 14 at his uncle’s laundromat on Nantucket. His dedication to work culminated in 40 years of service to the state utility company Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH). He began at PSNH in 1974 and retired in 2014. Paul began his career as a meter reader and worked as a lineman, an electrician, a safety coordinator and eventually a supervisor, responsible for all maintenance in the State of New Hampshire. Paul proudly recalled working every major storm since 1974.
Paul was a music enthusiast. He was self-taught and throughout his adult life turned to the guitar for personal enjoyment. He loved Neil Young, Crosby Stills & Nash, America and comparable artists who hailed in the 1960’s. Later in life, he often performed at social gatherings with friends and his brothers.
Paul was athletic throughout his life. He played both Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball in high school. He was proud to break a state record for points scored during the Class M finals at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) by scoring 32 points in one game and was voted “most athletic” before he graduated. As an adult, Paul prized himself as an amateur bodybuilder. He achieved 3rd place in the Mr. New Hampshire competition in 1978, and 5th place in the Granite State competition in 1979.
Paul, or “Big Mick”, surrounded himself with several close friends during his schooling years and often reflected on the “O.G. 71” — his close group of friends from the 5th grade, with whom he formed lifelong friendships: Mike Duhaime, Dave Wrocklage, Gary Noel, Steve Kelly, Doug Hummel and Jimmy Powers. When reflecting on his own life most recently, Paul proudly described himself as trustworthy and loyal. He said that once he made a friend with someone, they were a “friend for life.”
Paul was a devoted husband to his wife, Sandy, for 45 years. They are the proud parents of Tyler Meehan and his wife Heather, and loving grandparents to Jackson and Bennett. Paul and Sandy enjoyed many summers at their camp in Maine. Paul and Sandy have been faithful members of the First Church of Merrimack and Paul was accepted as an official member in 2024 after 13 weeks of focused study. He had a particular passion for Psalm 40, Verses 1-3. He often said that his devotion to the church fulfilled him greatly and turned him into a different person.
Paul is also survived by his loving siblings, Warren (and Donna) Meehan of Goodyear Arizona, Edward (and Sandra) Meehan of Vero Beach, Florida and Nantucket, Massachusetts, John (and Sandy) Meehan of Simi Valley, California, Ruth Meehan of Lawrence, Massachusetts and Barry (and Ellen) Meehan of Merrimack, New Hampshire; as well as many nieces and nephews.
