Dr. Dwight F. Damon

Dr. Dwight F. Damon, 93, a longtime active resident of Merrimack, NH died Sunday June 1, 2025, in Merrimack after a sudden illness.

He was born in Nashua, NH on April 10, 1932, a son of the late Harold A. and Dorothy (Frost) Damon.

Dr. Damon was a longtime Chiropractor and Hypnotist in Merrimack and was the founder of the National Guild of Hypnotists. Throughout the years he was awarded Merrimack Citizen of the Year (1978 & 1987) for his dedication to Merrimack through his role with the July 4th Festivities and numerous other achievements.

By age 13, he had earned the title of “New England’s Youngest Professional Magician” and was recognized in the Who’s Who of New England Entertainment. His passion for performance evolved into a lifelong dedication to Magic, Circus and Hypnosis. Many people remember Dr. Damon in the 70’s from his TV Show Ring-A-Ding the Clown on Channel 9 along with his weekly appearances doing Magic on the Uncle Gus Show. In 1975, Governor Meldrim Thomson Jr. named him as NH’s Magical Goodwill Ambassador and many people in Merrimack remember the days that he played Santa Claus as they drove up to meet Santa! Not to mention the numerous years he performed and hosted at the Deerfield Fair.

Throughout his remarkable life, Dr. Damon achieved an extraordinary list of accomplishments. In 1986 he dedicated himself to building the world’s largest hypnosis membership organization, The National Guild of Hypnosis–promoting safe, ethical, and professional standards in the field. His unwavering vision was to elevate hypnosis as a separate and distinct profession–a respected and practical tool for helping people overcome everyday challenges.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife Lois (Sloan) Damon who died in 1992; his second wife Margaret “Maggie” Damon who died in 2006; a son Sloan Damon in 2018; a daughter Melody (Damon) Bachand in 2017; a grandson Damon Huard in 2016; a granddaughter Melissa Dawn Bachand in 1976; and two brothers Earl and Lane Damon.

Members of his surviving family include two daughters, Dawn Damon Huard, and Holly Damon; a son Eric Damon and his wife Lisa; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Adam, Sarah, Allie, Christopher, Jereme, Craig, Jessica and Spencer; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held at the Rivet Funeral Home in Merrimack, NH on Friday June 6th, 2025, from 3-7pm. Funeral service will be held in the Funeral home on Saturday June 7th, 2025, at 10 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Last Rest Cemetery.
