Sister Alice Cassidy

Sister Alice Cassidy (Elizabeth), 81, a Sister of Mercy for 62 years died on January 29, 2025 during the loving vigilance of Sisters and Staff at Warde Senior Living, Windham, New Hampshire. A native of Stoneham, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Robert B. and Mary E. (Doherty) Cassidy. Sister Alice received her B.A. degree in education from Mt. St. Mary College in Hooksett, New Hampshire, M.Ed. from the University of New Hampshire, and a Masters in social work from Boston University School of Social Work. In her early years, Sister Alice taught at St. Joseph Schools in Hooksett and Manchester, St. John School in Laconia, St. Patrick Schools in Berlin and Pelham, St. Augustine School in Manchester, and was missioned as a teacher in Walterboro, South Carolina. After leaving the ministry of education, Sister Alice served in mental health ministries as a licensed social worker and certified group psychotherapist. She served as a coordinator of Good Beginnings with Catholic Charities, Manchester; counselor/student with Group Manchester Mental Health; therapist with Mental Health Center of Manchester Partial Hospital; coordinator/director of Elder Services with the Community Council of Mental Health Services of Nashua from 1997-2015; then as psychotherapist of Elder Services at Greater Nashua Mental Health Services, from 2015 until her retirement in 2019. Sister Alice was recognized as a compassionate and caring educator, counselor, advocate, and psychotherapist providing leading-edge mental health services for many people in need, especially elders.
Sister Alice is survived by the members of her Sisters of Mercy community and her brother, Robert Cassidy, Jr, sister-in-law, Helen Cassidy, nephew, Sean Cassidy, nieces, Kristen and Megann Cassidy. She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Maryellen Zak.
Friends and family are invited to Calling Hours on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 10-11 AM, at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, NH 03087. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM, in the Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, New Hampshire.
