Leonard Edmund Riviere
Leonard Edmund Riviere, 90, died in his home surrounded by his family on October 11, 2024. He was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on August 20, 1934, the son of Raymond and Gertrude (Blanchette) Riviere. Leonard played baseball for Nashua High School and the Nashua Coffey Post 3 American Legion junior team that won the NH State Baseball Championship in 1950. He was a 1952 graduate of Nashua High School and later attended Hesser College. Following his school years, he ski bummed from New Hampshire to Mt Hood, Oregon and later skied the German and Austrian Alps while stationed in Germany while serving his Country in the U.S. Army. He was one of two, first American inductees into the German Ski Patrol. He met his future wife Pauline Lavallee at the Yankee Flyer Diner in Nashua, New Hampshire in 1958. They were married on September 12,1959 and shared seven (7) children. Leonard owned and operated Riviere’s Variety Store in Nashua for 9 years. He went on to be employed by the US Post Office, as a rural letter carrier in Hudson, retiring at 59. During his retirement years, he was employed by Waterville Valley Ski Resort for 20 years as a bus driver and bus manager. He was a golf ranger at the Waterville Valley Country Club. He was an avid golfer, recording two holes in one and skied until he was 79 years old. He was a ski ambassador at Tenney Mountain Ski Resort and a member of the Knights of Columbus Third Order. He enjoyed boating on Newfound Lake. He co-founded and was the first manager of the Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School Baseball Program in 1974. He coached baseball and hockey, managed the Nashua Giants Babe Ruth teams and Nashua Babe Ruth All Star Teams, and in his final year of coaching, he lead the Nashua Giants to the city championship in the 1980’s. Leonard was devoted to his wife and children; easy going, he would say “Worry Pas”, “C’est la vie” and more recently he would serenade (Que sera’, sera’). He had a funny dry sense of humor and never swore. When he coached, there was no swearing allowed, otherwise you would sit the bench and he would emphasize, “I want you guys behaving like young Christian men!” Leonard was predeceased by his son, Marc Riviere; daughter, Monique Riviere; his brothers, Raymond Riviere, Donald Riviere, Gerald Riviere; and his sister, Mary Ann Riviere. Leonard is survived by his wife Pauline (Lavallee) Riviere of Plymouth; sons Paul Riviere (Andrea), Richard Riviere (Phyllis), and Daniel Riviere (Dina); daughters Lise Hoth (Christopher), Renee Dudley (Scott), grandchildren Ashlee Crouthamel (Matt), Nicholas Riviere, Joshua Riviere, Ryan Riviere, Courtney Riviere-Spencer (Jason Spencer), Alexander Hoth, Breanna Hoth, Ty Riviere, Lauren Riviere, Nathan Dudley, and Mia Dudley; great grandchild, Ginny; his sister, Patricia (Riviere) Corbin; and many nieces and nephews.
