David Michael Duncan Sr.

David Michael Duncan Sr., of Hollis, New Hampshire, a devoted husband, father, community leader, and accomplished Electrical Design Engineer, passed away suddenly on September 13, 2024, his 80th birthday. He died doing what he loved – hiking with friends – a testament to his enduring passion for adventure and the outdoors.

Born on September 13, 1944, in Malden, Massachusetts, David grew up in Medford, graduating from Medford High School in 1964. His early life was marked by a strong sense of family, shaped by his parents, Ordway and Buema Duncan. David was one of eight children, and his father worked as a Mechanical Engineer out of Boston on fishing vessels which instilled in him a love for the sea.

A U.S. Army veteran, David served in Turkey and later attended Northeastern University for Electrical Design Engineering, which laid the foundation for his successful career.

He married his beloved wife, Nancy Rideout, on June 1, 1969, sharing 55 wonderful years together. They raised three children, David Jr., Kelly, and Michael, in their Hollis, New Hampshire home, which David built himself.

David’s community spirit was evident in his 28-year tenure as a Hollis volunteer firefighter, dedicating himself to protecting his community. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, building homes for those in need. His leadership roles in the Diamond Cove Association in Gloucester, Massachusetts fostered community and connection among all residents.

Travel was a shared passion for David and Nancy. They explored Nova Scotia, the Caribbean, Alaska and Europe, creating lasting memories. Closer to home, David enjoyed sailing, exploring the waters of Gloucester, Massachusetts where he spent summers; skiing, reveling in the beauty of New England’s slopes; gardening; and storytelling, sharing tales of adventure, family, and friendship.

David is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; children David Jr. (Elizabeth), Kelly (Curt), and Michael; grandchildren Simon, Anna, Abby, Miles, and step-grandchild Vera; brother Robert (Bonnie); sister Romayne; brother Bruce; and cousin Marge.

David will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community for his kindness, generosity, and love for life.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday September 27th at 2:00 pm at Annisquam Village Church, 820 Washington Street, Gloucester MA. A private burial will be held at a future date. The service will also be live streamed by Zoom and login can be found on the Annisquam Village Church’s homepage.
