Monique Martel Kirby

Monique Martel Kirby, age 63, of Jefferson, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024. Born on September 27, 1960, Lewiston, Maine, Monique was the daughter of Maurice Roland and Sylvia Claudette Dumont Martel, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her brother, Marc Martel.

Monique is survived by her devoted husband, Kerry Kirby, and her two sons, Matthew William Grandin (Crystal) of Leland, NC, and Kyle Adam Grandin (Accrina) of Wilmington, NC. She also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Heather Kirby Kinser of Cary, NC, and her sister, Terry Denner (Robert) of Morganton, NC.

Monique was a vibrant and passionate individual who embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity. An artist and exceptional painter, she ran her own bakery, blending her love for culinary arts with her artistic flair. Monique moved to Ashe County eight years ago and fell deeply in love with the area’s natural beauty and mountains. She was an avid runner, completing six marathons, a testament to her dedication and tenacity.

Above all, Monique was a loving wife and devoted mother. Her zest for life, her artistic talents, and her boundless energy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Monique’s spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched.
