Christine Goss Trow

Aug 23, 2024

Christine Goss Trow, born in Concord on December 2, 1926, has peacefully passed away following complications from a fall. She was the daughter of Robert S. and Dorothy Goss of Henniker, NH. She was raised in Henniker and spent a good part of those years with her cousins Ruth and Joyce seeking adventure, fun and whatever kids did back then with no internet. Chris graduated from Henniker High School in 1944. She went on to train at Wellesley Convalescent Home for Children and then dedicated the next four years as a live-in nanny caring for 3 children in Boston.

In 1949, she married Kenneth Trow. They lived in Henniker for a short time before moving to Greenfield, and then to Hollis where Chris lived the remainder of her life.

Chris was an active member of the Congregational Church of Hollis, serving as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and contributor to various boards. She was active in many local organizations, including the Colonial Garden Club, Extension, and PTA. Chris took pride in her involvement with the Beaver Brook Association; volunteering with the Maple Hill Gardeners for nearly 40 years, received the Volunteer of the Year award in 1993, and served as a valuable member of the corporation.

Chris lived a lot of wonderful years, actually pretty much all of them! She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She told us in the middle of the pandemic that she has done exercises every day for years, eaten relatively healthy, and kept her mind sharp by completing 1000-piece puzzles one after the next. She surely wasn’t going to let covid take her.

Chris and Ken loved to travel, enjoying many cruises and numerous road trips. Summers were spent at their beach house in Hampton. The love of the seacoast was passed on to Jan who has lived there over 30 years. Family gatherings were frequent and meant so much to her. Chris and Ken’s home was a hub of entertainment, especially with their lifelong friends Bud and Phyllis King, where laughter and fun were always in abundance.

At 97, she was still baking every week whether it be cookies, bread, soup, pudding or a cake. She learned at a young age all about generosity and how important caring about and helping others is. She says she gives away her baked goods to friends and neighbors, so she won’t gain weight by eating them herself …. don’t believe that for a second. She loved sharing her goods!

She had a passion for gardening. She kept her gardens maintained beautiful and plants perfectly placed. She loved silk and dried flower arranging and many types of needlework.

Chris is survived by her son David G. Trow, his husband Edward Dobens and her daughter Janice T. Savage. She is predeceased by her husband Kenneth, her mother and father Robert and Dorothy Goss, son in law Stephen R. Savage, two cousins Ruth Eames and Joyce Johnstone, and companion for many years, Raymond A. MacDonald.

Chris lived a life full of love, generosity and joy, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
