Karen Ann Mercer
Karen Ann Mercer (née Trainor), 68, of Hudson, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 17, 1955, in Waltham, Massachusetts, Karen was the beloved daughter of John and Marjorie Trainor (Menz).
Karen was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She married Ed Mercer on September 18, 1977, in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and together they built a beautiful life centered around their family, faith, and shared passions. Karen was predeceased by her son Matthew Mercer, and is survived by her husband Ed Mercer, her son Jonathan Mercer, and her siblings Patricia Rauseo, Marj Christen, Tom Trainor, Rosemary Walker, and Robert Trainor. She was predeceased by her brother Jack Trainor and brother-in-law Kenny Rauseo. Her extended family includes many cherished nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and dear friends.
Karen was a kind and warm-hearted person, known for her wholesome nature and her ability to remember the smallest details about those she loved. She was a nurturing soul who brought warmth and light to everyone she met. Her genuine care for others was reflected in her lifelong dedication to her family, friends, and community.
An active and adventurous spirit, Karen had a deep love for the outdoors and spent much of her time hiking, kayaking, and horse riding. She was also an aspiring figure skater in her youth. Her creativity shone through her love for arts and crafts, and she found immense joy in tending to her garden. Music was an integral part of her life, from her many years of piano practice to her love of church music ensembles.
Karen’s artistic pursuits were a lifelong passion, particularly her love for photography. In college, she had the opportunity to develop her own film for the first time, which led to the creation of a cherished collection that captured her unique perspective and deep appreciation for the beauty in everyday moments.
Karen dedicated her professional life to the field of public health as a Professor of Dental Hygiene at NHTI, where she inspired countless students and colleagues. Her commitment to life-long learning and public service was recognized with the NHTI Faculty Advisory Award. She also worked as a dental hygienist in the great Nashua region for most of her early career, contributing to the well-being of her community.
Karen was a devout member of The First Church in Nashua, where she was actively involved in various church activities and volunteered her time generously. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and guidance throughout her journey.
Karen will be remembered for her good-natured humor, her love for life, and her unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
SERVICES: A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 2-6 pm at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St in Nashua, NH. A funeral service at The First Church of Nashua, 1 Concord St, will follow on Monday, August 19, at 10 am. A procession will lead to the Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury, Massachusetts immediately after the service.
