Nancy Jeanne (Seward) Ireland

Nancy Ireland, 80, died Wednesday July 31st, 2024 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH with her only son Wade Ireland by her side. Nancy was born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, the daughter of William Seward, a member of the Coast Guard, and Barbara (Flanders) Seward, the local Postmaster in Menemsha, MA.

She left the island to pursue her degree in Education from Drury College in Springfield, MO. After college, Nancy met and married Richard Thompson Ireland and enjoyed 43 years of marriage living their entire wedded lives in Nashua, NH, until his passing in 2015.

Nancy taught in the Nashua public school system for 38 years until she retired in 2007, after which she continued to serve as a substitute teacher for several years. She dedicated herself to her students, first at the Temple Street Elementary School and then the Dr. Norman W. Crisp Elementary School.

Nancy is survived by her son, Wade of Hudson, NH and his wife Vikki (Isaksen) Ireland. She has five grandchildren: Kaela Poland of Kennesaw, GA, Molly, Liam, Shane and Aena Ireland of Hudson NH and one great-grandson, Locke Poland. She leaves behind two twin brothers, David and Douglas Seward of Martha’s Vineyard, MA and seven nieces and nephews and their families.

SERVICES: A celebration of remembrance will be held at Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 13th from 4:00-7:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend.
