James “Jim” William Doll
James William Doll (nicknamed Jim) passed on at home in Nashua, NH on June 20th surrounded by his family. Born in Morristown, NJ, he grew up in Mendham, NJ and graduated from West Morris Mendham High School. He graduated from County College of Morris with an Associates degree in management information technology and was hired at Exxon. While at Exxon, he became involved in the Explorer Scouts which provided educational opportunities for Boy Scouts in the corporate environment. He continued his education receiving a B.S. in Information Technology from Kean University (NJ) and worked for New York Life for the next 25 years in IT and data storage and security management, first in Lebanon, NJ and after 9/11, relocated to Alpharetta, GA.
Throughout his life, Jim was always about giving back and was active in the Red Cross in every place he lived. In Pennsylvania, he assisted families and children with relief during fires and floods and when he relocated to the Atlanta, GA area, was active with the Red Cross assisting Hurricane Katrina victims in addition to fires, tornado relief and relocations. Jim always wanted to be a father and adopted his son John when he was ten years old. Together, they traveled, learned about investing and enjoyed time together. Jim had a love of flying and obtained his private pilots license in 1995. He was active in AOPA and enjoyed renting planes and flew to visit the family in NH where he eventually retired. Jim immediately became involved in his local community, with the Nashua Community Concert Association where he served as a Board Member and Web Master. He also volunteered his time as an AARP Tax Aide and contributed financially creating a children’s room at the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter.
His love of travel took him to most of the United States and to all seven continents. One of his greatest joys was as a camper, camp counselor and staff member for the Adventure Unlimited Camps in Buena Vista, CO. Jim loved the Rocky Mountains. Jim also served as Finance Chair and was also on the Board of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Morristown, NJ.
Jim was predeceased by his mother Audrey Doll. He is survived by his father, William E. Doll of Nashua his son John Ross Doll of Lancaster, WI and three sisters, Linda Carubia of Basking Ridge, NJ, Janice Rush (Bret) of Nashua, NH and Allison Currier (Daniel) also of Nashua, NH. He cherished time with his nephews Ryan and Jason Rush and Nicholas and Owen Currier of Nashua, his niece, Kelsey Rush of Woburn, MA and two great nieces, Monica and Aubrey Rush and his pet turtle, Yurtle and dear aunts, uncles and cousins. He is remembered as a wonderful son, brother, father and uncle who was generous of spirit and loved and adored by all.
UPDATED SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 13th from 1 – 3:30 p.m with a service to immediately follow at Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua. There will be a gathering with dinner immediately following at 4:30 to celebrate Jim’s life.
