Edna M Charles

Edna M Charles of Alton, NH and former longtime resident of Merrimack, NH passed away at her daughter’s home in Alton on May 2nd, 2024 the morning of her 102nd Birthday.

Born in Holliston, MA on May 2nd1922, Edna was one of seven children to the late Herbert and Grace (Andrews) Chambers.

Edna was raised singing around the piano with her Mother and sisters and in later years sang with the choir at the First Congregational Church of Merrimack, NH for 33 years. She loved to sew and crochet and could always be found making something with the ladies aid or for her children and grandchildren. Everyone knew her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and every grandchild had a “Sandy Pants”. She loved her children and grandchildren and always enjoyed spoiling them. Edna was known for her loving “smile” and her ability to always show love and kindness to everyone. She was a beautiful Christian who always put others needs before her own.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Harold Charles in 1997; two sons Robert Charles in 2016 and William Charles in 2022 and all her sisters and brothers.

Surviving family members include four children: June Sketchley of Alton, NH, Linda Poehlman of Moultonborough, NH, David Charles of Wakefield, NH and Ronald Charles of Bunnell, FL. 23 Grandchildren, 38 Great-Grandchildren, 8 Great-Great-Grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Community Church of Alton on Church St, Alton, NH on Saturday, May 25th, 2024 at 11 AM with a reception held after the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
