Matthew S. Publicover, 67, Port Charlotte, Florida (formerly Merrimack, NH) died on April 5, 2024 from unexpected health complications while awaiting a heart transplant. Matt was born February 9, 1957 in Newton, MA to Donald W. Publicover and Joanne (Low) Publicover. He grew up in Framingham MA, and graduated from Framingham North High School in 1975. He later graduated from Dartmouth College in 1979 with a degree in English.

After college, he began pursuing his dream of journalism. He worked as a freelance reporter for the Middlesex News and a financial writer for Donoghue Organization. He eventually settled into a career in retail where he was a manager for MVP Sports, and later a demand planner for Decathlon Sports, Eastern Mountain Sports and Yankee Candle before retiring to Port Charlotte, FL in 2019.

Matt was very civic minded; always enjoying a good discussion on history, religion and politics. He served on the Merrimack NH School Board Budget Committee and Merrimack Library Board of Trustees, and more recently as Secretary of the Board of Directors for Port Charlotte Village. He also served as a Boy Scout leader and soccer coach in Merrimack.

Matt was intelligent, creative, generous and loving. He was a man of many talents and passions who loved music, cooking, photography, painting, golf, fishing, reading, writing and the outdoors; especially camping and backpacking with his family. He was extremely proud of his family’s Nova Scotia heritage and his Essex, MA ship building roots.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Brooks) of 38 years; son Andrew S. Publicover and partner Bree Freshcorn, Port Charlotte, FL; son Ian M. Publicover and wife Alyx Klontz, Spanaway, WA; and his brother David A. Publicover and wife Betsy Rand, of Bartlett, NH.

Matt will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He would want us all to live each day to its fullest and to follow his favorite golf mantra ” Remember the good shots.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Rd., Merrimack, NH on June 12th, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack, NH.
