Franklin “Frank” Dutton

May 7, 2024

Franklin “Frank” Dutton died on May 1, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH after an injury. He was 91.

Frank was predeceased by the love of his life, Alice (Pitts) Dutton. Before her death in 2008 they had been married 50 years. He is survived by his son Timothy Dutton and his wife Lelia, granddaughter Lindsay Dutton and her partner Dalton Mutz, and granddaughter Hannah Dutton and her partner Ryan Cameron. He is also survived by his older sister Shirley Babb and several nieces and nephews.

He was born March 5, 1933, and lived in South Gardiner, Maine. He met his future wife in Boston after serving in the Air Force in the early 1950’s. They married on August 23, 1958 and in January 1961 welcomed their son Timothy. Frank was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 15 in the 1970s. He and Tim spent a lot of their time camping and backpacking in The White Mountains and canoeing in the Allagash.

Frank is remembered fondly for the love he and Alice had of history and antiquing that they shared with their friends and family. They took their granddaughters to just about every antique store and museum in New Hampshire. Walking into their house was like walking back into the 1700s. They liked to cook on the fireplace with antique and reproduction colonial cookware. Frank had a talent for woodworking and many items you find around the house are handmade.

In his later years, he loved walking in Wildcat Falls for many years. He truly cherished the conversations and friends he made while walking. He enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Whetstone Pond in Maine. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.

There will be a Celebration of life for both Frank and Alice Dutton. It will be held at the John O’Leary Center in Merrimack on Sunday June 2, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm. It will be a casual affair, casual dress, and a time to share our love and stories of two extraordinary people.

If you feel the need to do something special, in lieu of flowers make a donation to the NH Historical Society, Merrimack Home Hospice or to your favorite non-profit organization.
