Richard Philippe Breton, 85, of Peterborough, NH, passed away on April 21, 2024, in Peterborough, NH.

Richard was born in Lewiston, ME, on April 13, 1939, a son to the late Lucien and Rose (Pomerleau) Breton.

Richard grew up in Connecticut where he attended Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Connecticut where he finished in 1959 before travelling to Paris to attended Saint-Sulpice Seminary. During his stay abroad, he travelled throughout Europe. Eventually his love for education demanded his return to the United States where he attended the University of Connecticut and obtained his bachelor’s degree before continuing for his master’s degree at the University of Hartford. In 1971, he moved to New Hampshire for a teaching opportunity at Appleton Academy in New Ipswich and decided to stay and create a life here. He loved teaching and was devoted to music and playing the piano. He led an array of singing groups and even had his choir go about Christmas caroling all in the French language. He was a member of the French Club, being bi-lingual himself, and they would take trips around the area hiking. Above all else, he was devoted to his beloved cats.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his siblings, Madelyn, Maurice, Joline, and Joseph, and his first cousin Connie.He will be missed by his Nieces, Nephews, his cousin David, as well as his God Children.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM in Saint Patrick Church, 87 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH, 03452. Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps will officiate.
