John E. Upton, Jr.

Apr 5, 2024

John E. Upton, Jr., 64, of Merrimack, NH passed away on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Queens, NY on April 23rd, 1959, John was one of six children to the late Gladys (Vogel) and John E. Upton, Sr. He was raised in Lynbrook, Long Island, graduated from Lynbrook High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Franklin Pierce University. He later earned his MBA from Southern New Hampshire University.

John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1978 to 1980. After an honorable discharge, he then went on to work for defense contracting labs and most recently was the General Manager for Sage Laboratories in Hudson. When John wasn’t working, he enjoyed coaching his sons in football, traveling cross country in his motorhome, woodworking projects and picking up occasional construction side jobs. Later in life he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and pursue their hobbies.

In his retirement years, he and his wife Alison purchased Crawford Notch Campground, a 100-acre campground in the White Mountains. He was never one to sit idly by so this was the perfect business for him to run and get to be outside in nature. He built so many memories with his family and friends at the campground and made new friends along the way.

He will be forever loved by his wife of 40 years, Alison (Demers) Upton; four children, Monique and her husband Bill Olszewski, John Upton and his wife Carrie, Tim Upton and his wife Leah, and Julie and her husband Matt Walker; nine grandchildren, Addyson, Cooper, Brooklynn, Kylee, Lydia, Ava, Emma, Jack and Shea; five siblings, Deb Greenberger, Jim Upton, Christine Ewald, Jeff Upton and Patrice Morrow along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack NH on Monday, April 8th, 2024 from 4 – 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack, NH on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 at 9:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory can be made to Nashua Humane Society, a place that was near and dear to John’s heart and brought many furry family members into his life throughout the years.
