Mar 15, 2024

Barbara E. (Spaulding) Hatfield, 89, of Nashua, wife of the late McKinley (“Mac”) Hatfield passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Saturday, March 2, 2024, after a period of declining health. Barbara was born at her family home in Pepperell, MA, to the late William and Lillian (Lawrence) Blood.

Barabara is survived by her children, Pam Potter (Jack) of St. Petersburg, Fla, Marion Kay Spaulding of Colchester, CT, P Spaulding of Peterborough, NH, Charlie Spaulding (Deb) of Bradford, NH, Andy Spaulding (Heidi) of Milford, NH and Dave Spaulding (Kim) of Antrim NH, a foster daughter Cory Haigh Phillips Willets of O’Brien, Fla, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends who will miss her dearly.

Barbara enjoyed cooking, baking (especially Banana Bread) and trying new recipes, sharing all her delicious cooking creations with family, neighbors, and friends. Barbara enjoyed reminiscing about growing up in Pepperell, all the years working with her children on the family farm, Spaulding Poultry Farm, Hollis NH – sharing all the antics about driving the weekly “egg routes” to Boston, Nashua, Groton, MA and other surrounding locations; spending years of summer evenings swimming/cooking out at the cabin on Rocky Pond during the month of July; riding the trails on her horse “Cookie”, hosting family holiday dinners; shopping for grands and great-grands for Christmas AND just shopping in general!

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, McKinley (“Mac”) Hatfield and her eldest daughter Jan (Spaulding) Mellen who passed away in 2018 from cancer, a loss that left a huge hole in Barbara’s heart. Barbara was also predeceased by her parents & siblings; her parents William & Lillian Blood, her sister(s) Marjorie Wyatt and Beverly Wells and her brother Howard Blood.

The family would like to gratefully thank Barbara’s friends and neighbors at Gateway Manor, where she resided. For all the thoughtful, kind, helpful ways that those friends and neighbors made each day a joy for Barbara to comfortably keep living independently at home.

Also, the family would like to extend thanks to the St. Joseph’s Hospital ER staff and 3rd floor Nursing Staff who helped with her care that day for a peaceful passing.

There are no services, a celebration of life will be held at a later date, with notification. Please consider making a donation to Shriners Children’s New England, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 in memory of Barbara.
