George Katis
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Katis, 75, of Bedford, NH and formerly of Nashua, NH. George was surrounded by his loving family when he passed on February 1, 2024 following a lengthy illness with cancer.
George was born November 13, 1948 in Lowell, MA. He was the beloved son of the late Stella Linatsas and Charles Katis, as well as the Stepson of the late Spiro Linatsas, founder of Nashua Wallpaper. He was also predeceased by a brother, Chris Katis.
He was the devoted husband of Sarah (Sandee) Katis of Bedford, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
George, along with his sons, was the proud owner of Nashua Wallpaper and Paint, Deans Carpet of Manchester and three Ace Hardware locations in Nashua, Manchester and Bedford. He cherished the staff and associates of all of these stores and appreciated their hard work and dedication to help this family business grow and thrive for so many years.
George was the personal friend and Gaming Manager of the Executive Board of the Ted Williams Foundation, helped raise millions of dollars over the past few decades for CHaD, and was a sponsor for 21 years of the Granite State Baseball Dinner. George was also a sponsor of the Nashua Goes Back to School Program, a program he helped launch 20 years ago and in 2023 received the Ron Krauss Award – Nashua Education Foundation for his efforts. George also received the Good Scout Award, received the 2016 Businessman of the Year Award presented by the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce and was also the 2017 Citizen of the Year Award presented by the Nashua Chamber of Commerce. There is no doubt that George was always looking to help others and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Besides the love of his life, Sandee, his loving family includes his three children; Charles Katis and his wife Angela, Kassandra (Katis) Galipeault and her husband Rick, Mark Katis and his wife Kelly, his grandchildren; Isabella Katis, Juliana Katis, Ava Katis, Mia Katis, Nicholas, Anthony and Sophia Galipeault, step grandchildren Ricky, Kayla and Michael Galipeault, two sisters; Elizabeth Skinsacos and Hope Zaroulis as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Katis family would especially like to thank the Brookhaven Hospice of NH team, who ensured George could remain at home in his final days – especially Kirsten Just, Jessica LeBlanc, Sheryl Perrin and Danielle Coffill.
A Funeral Service will be held in St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church, 500 West Hollis Street, Nashua at 10:00am on Saturday, February 10, 2024. All are asked to please meet at church. Burial will be held in Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua.
