David A. Coate

David A. Coate of Bennington, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 23, 2023. He was born on April 9, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Michael and Mary Frances (Gagnon) Coate.

David spent many years traveling across the country as a professional Truck Driver. Prior to his well-deserved retirement he was employed as a maintenance technician at New England College in Henniker which allowed him to settle down in the New Hampshire countryside he so loved.

David found solace and exhilaration in the great outdoors. He was an avid and skilled photographer, he had a keen eye for capturing the beauty in the world around him. He was a skilled skier and sailor and loved to travel the backroads of New Hampshire on motorcycle. His love for gardening and painting allowed him to express his creativity, bringing joy to those fortunate enough to experience his work.

David was also an automotive enthusiast and he was able to bring this passion to life through the restoration of old cars. His skillful hands brought new life to vintage vehicles, a testament to his craftsmanship and dedication to preserving the beauty of the past.

David found joy in the companionship of his beloved feline friend, Miss Kitty. His love for her added warmth and comfort to his home.

David is survived by his loving siblings: Katie Fontana and her husband John of North Hampton, Maggie Coate of Portsmouth, Melissa McLaughlin and her husband Michael of Rye, Tom Coate and his wife Marcy of Portsmouth. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces Nicole Berry and nephews Christopher Fontana, Thomas Fontana, Griffin Coate, Benjamin Coate, and Cooper Coate.

In honoring David’s memory, let us cherish the vibrant spirit, creativity, and zest for life that defined him. May he find eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty that brought him so much joy in this world.
