Stanley M. Yanis, Jr.
Stanley M. Yanis, Jr. of Hollis NH, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023 at Durgin Pines Nursing Home in Kittery Maine. He was 86.
He was born June 6th, 1937 to Stanley and Rose Yanis (Archambeault) in Nashua NH. He was a long time resident of both Hudson NH, where he built his own home, and then later moved to Hollis NH, in 1986.
Stanley was a proud US Marine. You would find the saying, “Once a Marine, always a Marine”, prominently displayed in and around his house and cars. He was very generous, supporting many causes benefiting his extended military brethren. Stanley spent most of his professional career as an Air Traffic Controller working at the Boston ARTCC in Nashua, retiring after 33 years in 1992. He had fun letting people know he retired at lunch and came back to work in the afternoon, as a contractor for the FAA. He stayed on as a contract manager under IBM and Lockheed Martin, for another 10 years there, keeping the national airways safe.
He was very proud of his academic accomplishments, receiving his bachelor’s degree in political science from Rivier University, after 7 and a half years wrestling with his typewriter. attending night school, to graduate summa cum laude. Even with his passing he will continue to support Rivier University through a generous scholarship in his name.
Stanley considered himself to be a historian of world war. He built many models of US battle ships, aircraft and even reconstructed battle fields depicting African tribal conflicts. He also enjoyed fly fishing in Temple NH, owning his own baseball card collector’s business and feeding his wild furry friends on his back deck.
Stanley is survived by his son Michael and wife Laurie Yanis of Hillsboro NH and their sons Ryan and Marshall. As well daughter Christina Yanis Mandravelis of York Maine, along with her daughter Talia.
A Graveside Service with military honors, will be held Friday, December 29th, 10am at Holy Cross Cemetery, Ledge Road in Hudson, NH. All are welcome to attend and may meet at the cemetery.
