Robert M. Shagoury, (Shag, Bobby)
Robert M. Shagoury, (Shag, Bobby) 81, of Merrimack New Hampshire, formerly of Boston and Brighton Massachusetts, passed away on September 20, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Bobby was the son of the late Michael and Alexandria (Tamoosh) Shagoury of Brighton Massachusetts and Merrimack New Hampshire.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Lorraine (Leikauskas) Shagoury, son Robert G. Shagoury, brothers Richard A. Shagoury of Campbell CA, Michael L. Shagoury of Dover NH, sister Elaine M. (Shagoury) Adam of Manchester NH, several godchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bobby was an excellent athlete. He played tennis, basketball, park league baseball, softball and football.
After graduating Brighton High School’s Automotive course, Bobby owned and operated service stations in Jamaica Plain and Quincy MA. He went on to work for New England Telephone Company as warehouse manager. He then moved on to Digital Equipment Company in Roxbury, MA as a production manager.
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan toured the company, and Bobby was awarded a pair of autographed cufflinks for his “Diligent efforts in assisting the Secret Service in securing the facility and surrounding area”.
As a young man, he became a guiding force and mentor in many youth organizations in the Boston area such as The Brighter Day, The South End Boys Club and The Blackstone School.
He volunteered his time generously and was instrumental in securing employment for many inner-city youths. He instilled in them a good work ethic and responsible money management, encouraging them to open bank accounts.
Bobby will be held in treasured memory by a host of loyal, lifelong friends, and his basketball teammates with whom he played religiously for decades on Friday nights.
He was a friend to all who knew him and an example of courage and integrity to all who loved him.
