Raymond “Ray” Blair Barker
Raymond “Ray” Blair Barker, 77, of Chatham, Massachusetts, died Saturday, September 23, 2023, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He was born on December 27, 1945, in Newton, MA, son of the late Philip L. Barker and Marjorie Chase Barker.
Ray served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Marksman M-14 Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Upon leaving the military, Ray attended the New England Aeronautical Institute, Daniel Webster Junior College, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Science. He then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from UNH.
Ray began working for the Chatham Bars Inn, Cape Cod, during his high school years, on the golf course. There, he worked his way up from bartender to Beverage Manager, where he was employed for over 50 years. He purchased land in Chatham and had a four-bedroom cape style home built. He was an active participant during the construction process and built the brick stairs at the front of the house.
Aside from his parents, Raymond is predeceased by his brothers, Philip and George Barker. Survivors include his sister, Mary Elizbeth (Beth) Barker of Nashua, and his cousin Susan Chase Baltrus of Lewiston, Maine.
SERVICES: Visitation hours will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 10am to 12pm at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua, NH 03064. A Church Service will follow at Church of the Good Shepherd, 214 Main St, Nashua, NH 03060 at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at the Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst St, Nashua, NH 03064 at 1:30pm with full Military Honors.
