Robert “Bob” Paul Lacroix
Robert “Bob” Paul Lacroix, 76, of Nashua, N.H., passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice House of Merrimack, N.H., on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 1:42am. He was the beloved husband of Diane L. (Berube) with whom he shared a wonderful 55 years of marriage and over 59 years of time spent together.
Bob was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on March 5, 1947 and was the son of the late Phillip and Antonia Lacroix. He started his career as a mechanic at McMulkin Chevrolet in the 1960’s. He went on to graduate from General Motors Training School. He continued working at McMulkin Chevrolet until he and his wife Diane opened a business which eventually became “Broad St. Sunoco” in March of 1980. He worked side by side with his wife, Diane and eventually his son, Rob. He enjoyed working 60+ hour weeks with very few days off, up until he began his battle with tongue cancer in May of 2023. He never officially retired.
In the 1990’s Bob found a hobby he really enjoyed, woodworking. He built his own workshop in his backyard, which was his favorite place to be. He built beautiful pieces of furniture for his daughter’s and son’s homes. He learned how to whittle and created many different types of birds for his family and close friends. His latest piece was an Atlantic Puffin he made for his daughter Shelley, who loves Puffins. He also made wooden pens, vases, lamps, Corian coasters, jewelry boxes, bowls, stained-glass pieces, and Christmas ornaments. He was a perfectionist, and he took great pride in his work. He gave many pieces as gifts, or as tokens of appreciation, including giving to doctors and nurses who cared for him. He did it for the love of it and said he would never sell any of his pieces because then it would become a job.
Bob is survived by his wife, Diane L. Lacroix (Berube), and their two children, Robert P Lacroix Jr., and his wife Jill (Lafrance) of Amherst, N.H., and daughter Shelley A. Lacroix and her husband Dean Goulet, of Hudson, N.H. He is also survived by three siblings, Janet Belanger and her husband Kenneth of New Boston, N.H., brother Jean-Guy Lacroix and wife Lucille of Hudson, N.H., brother Roger Lacroix and his wife Nancy of Nashua, N.H. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Donna Kramer and her husband Jerry of Nashua, N.H., as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, employees, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Paulette Dumais of Nashua, NH.
He will be remembered for his selflessness, generosity, sincerity, bravery, quick wit and great sense of humor. He could fix almost anything, and I mean anything. He enjoyed making people laugh, and that he did! His most cherished time was spent with his family, whom he loved deeply. He was also an animal lover and loved his families and customers pets. He made many great friends throughout the years of owning his business and woodworking. His customers thought of him as a friend and enjoyed their conversations with him. He was a role model to many employees throughout the decades. His work ethic and dedication to his business was unmatched. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, customers, employees, and neighbors.
