Joan Paula Barnes
Joan Paula Barnes was born to Betty and Leo Lachance on February 15, 1947. She peacefully left this world on August 26, 2023 from her longtime home in Nashua. She was a loving daughter who provided a lot of support for her parents, Betty and Leo Lachance, in their last years.
Joan was raised In Hudson, New Hampshire in the home built by her father, Leo Lachance and her uncle, Henry Lachance, just after she was born. She attended public schools in Hudson and graduated from Alvirne High School. She then earned her cosmetology credentials. She spent most of her work life in factories in the Hudson area making products we have all used.
Her whole family deeply appreciates the friendship and help that Eric Bucchio provided for many years to Joan and her parents.
She was briefly married to Roy Barnes and spent some time with him in Germany while he served in the US military. She was an enthusiastic bowler and later in life she enjoyed travel, especially to Hawaii. She loved her dogs and cats dearly.
She was a loving and generous aunt to her nephews Pepin, Eric and Simon Lachance. Their holidays were always made extra special by her thoughtfulness. Pepin’s daughter, Layne, was overwhelmed by the gigantic teddy bear she sent for her 2nd Christmas. Layne and her sister Nadia were playing with it just last week.
Joan is survived by her Brother, David Joseph Lachance and his wife, Lucille Tamm, her nephews Pepin Leo Lachance, Eric Heinz Lachance, and Simon David Lachance who all live in Milwaukee Wisconsin as well as two grandnieces Layne and Nadia Lachance. She is also survived by cousins in the New England area including: Martha Lachance, Terry Drouin,
Butch Lachance, Gloria Warren, Peter Lachance, Mary D’Onofrio, and Michael D’Onofrio. She also had many cousins in the Terry and Cross families in Northern Alabama including Dean Terry Hand, Marva Letson Harris, Lyndon Letson, Peggy Terry York, Kathy Terry, Archie Terry, Ronald Terry, Harold Cross, Ann Cross Wilson.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, September 1st from 4pm – 6pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Homes, 50 Ferry Street in Hudson. A Service of Remembrance will take place at 10am on Saturday, September 2nd in the funeral home, followed by a burial in St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson.
