Patryce M. ‘Pat’ Cosgrove
Patryce M. “Pat” Cosgrove, 88, longtime resident of Merrimack, NH and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 following a long period of declining health.
She was born on May 9, 1935 to the late Walter C. and Alice M. (Leary) O’Neill of Belmont, MA. She was a graduate of Belmont High School in 1953 and received her bachelor’s degree from Framingham State Teachers College in 1957.
Pat was an elementary school teacher for the Nashua School District for 18 years, retiring in 1997. She taught at Main Dunstable, Broad Street and Birch Hill schools. She also previously taught in the Merrimack, NH, New City, NY and Natick, MA school systems.
Pat enjoyed many hobbies and activities during her life, including knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, playing bridge, swimming, ice skating, tennis, golf, bocci and spending time at the beach. She also enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sports events and activities.
Following her retirement, Pat enjoyed spending winters at her condo in Royal Wood Golf & Country Club, Naples, Florida where she made many close friends within the Amberly Village association.
In addition to her parents, Pat was pre-deceased by her three siblings, Walter O’Neill, Maureen Ransom and Nancy O’Malley, brothers-in-law Marq Ransom and Charles O’Malley, sisters-in-law Jean Cosgrove and Ann Cosgrove, and best friend Nancy Herdecker.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 64 years, John (Jack) Cosgrove; four children: Daniel Cosgrove and his wife Catherine of Franklin, MA, Nancy and her husband Kenneth Burt of Merrimack, NH, Brenda and her husband Kenneth McDermott of Darien, CT and Jill and her husband Anthony Danksewicz of Franklin, MA; eight grandchildren: Christina (Michael) Arnold, Meagan (Kristopher) Ireland, Griffin Cosgrove, Brendan Cosgrove, Christopher (Brittani) Burt, Nicholas (Abigail) Burt, Kerry McDermott and Jack McDermott; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild along with many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by four step-grandchildren: Michael Danksewicz, Christopher Danksewicz, Jacob Tomaso and Jonathan Tomaso, sister-in-law Patricia O’Neill and brother-in-law Thomas Cosgrove.
Visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack on Tuesday August 22, 2023 from 4 – 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack NH on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 9:30am. Burial will be private for the immediate family.
The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of nurses and doctors at Home, Health & Hospice Care, Bedford Hills Center and Catholic Medical Center for their care and compassion provided to Pat throughout her illness. Special thanks to Dr. Westbrook, Dr. Capparelli and especially nurse Melody Goddard of CMC for their extraordinary work.
