Herbert Bruce Simpson

Jun 23, 2023

Herbert Bruce Simpson passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 with family members by his side, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida at the age of 78 years.

Herb was born in Hudson, NH on May 31st, 1945. Beloved son of the late Edward Simpson, Sr., and the late Cora Blanche (Smith) Simpson, “Herbie” will be remembered for his unflappable love, loyalty, and devotion to his family members, and countless, cherished friends. Herb was the loving brother of: the late Joyce Dailey of Zephyrhills, FL; the late Brenda (Breen) Bell of Nashua, NH; and Lieutenant Colonel Edward Simpson, Jr. of Alexandria, VA. Uncle Herbie will be dearly missed by his nieces, and nephews: Shelly (Breen) Joyal of Nashua, NH; Jeffrey E. Breen of Hull, MA; and Steven P Breen of Nashua, NH; Beth (Simpson) Yen of Wescoville, PA; R. Brett Simpson of Morgantown, WV; Laura E. Simpson of Maryland. With family roots going back hundreds of years in the Hudson, and Pelham, New Hampshire area; Herbert also leaves behind a vast network of aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends across many generations; including his loving, favorite aunt Marjorie (Smith) Clark of Thomasville, GA.

Herb grew up in the house his father built in the 1940s on Kimball Hill Road in Hudson, and told many stories about a lean, yet extremely happy, and fulfilling childhood spent in the Simpson family’s small white cape-style home; with an outhouse, and hand-dug cellar. Herbert Graduated from Alvirne High School in Hudson, NH with the class of 1963. During his time at Alvirne Herbie competed in soccer, basketball, and baseball. At a young age Herb developed an interest in all things related to cars. Especially fast cars. This lead to a life-long interest in stock car racing as both a driver, and a fan. Herb’s racing career began right out of high school, and carried through his entire life.

This love of automobiles flowed into Herb’s professional life as well, when, in the ’70s, he founded his general automotive repair business. Hudson Alignment allowed Herb to mix his love of cars with his desire to help others; and he generously serviced the local community for several decades from his shop on Cross St. in Hudson. From this same location Herb also founded, and operated Hudson Trophy; The Blackjack Clinic in the ’80s; and Monograms Now.

Herb’s legacy of kindness, generosity and fierce loyalty will live on in the hearts of his family and friends whom he loved so dearly. Rest in peace Herbert Bruce Simpson after an honorable life well spent.

To honor Herb’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
