Tom St. Laurent

Tom St. Laurent passed away June 11th after a battle with cancer.

Tom was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont in 1946 to Conrad and Doris St. Laurent and grew up with his three siblings Loretta, Raymond and James in Nashua, NH.

He served for four years in the U.S. Navy aboard aircraft carriers as an electronics technician and subsequently received education at NYU and Rutgers University.

For 25 years, Tom worked in journalism and theater in NYC and across the northeast.His writing featured in the NY Post and Journal of Commerce among a variety of publications. He began his theater career as an actor but graduated to set design where he partnered with his future wife, Susan, on major theatrical productions and in raising their son Thomas Nicholas.

In later years, Tom gained employment as a Clerk in the USPS to support his family and his creative writing career. His published creative works include the novel “In the Name of the Father” as well as several short stories. It was at USPS that he met his future partner Gayle.

Tom was a maverick with a glint in his eyes which beckoned the world to “Bring it on”. His mind never wearied of deep contemplation or profound discussion. All knew him for his boldness and creativity.

He had no patience for the DMV or for those who might chide him for fixing his radiator with a vacuum cleaner hose and living off popcorn while he focused on “thinking”. He would consume history books, especially biography, spanning the life of Sulla to that of de Gaulle . His favorite novels were “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “The Fountainhead”, whose protagonists’ he embodied to great depth.

A longtime friend and shipmate during Vietnam remembers his courage, strength, and love of his country, which melded into his love for his family and friends.

Tom is survived by his son, Thomas Nicholas; his sister, Loretta Murray; his brothers, Raymond and James; and his partner, Gayle Muzzey.

A funeral service will be held at 10am Saturday, June 24th at St Aloysius of Gonzaga(St Louis) in Nashua, NH followed by a celebration of life event.
