The fifth of seven children, Sylvia was fondly nicknamed “Sugar” as a baby, a name that stayed with her through life. She attended Saint Louis de Gonzague Elementary School and graduated from Saint Louis de Gonzague High School. She worked as a telephone operator at the New England Telephone Company in Nashua for nine years. In 1956, she married Lionel Ouellette, with whom she raised two sons. In 1967, Sugar and Lionel opened the Sugar and Spice Day Care at their home on Cross Street in Nashua, which they operated for thirteen years. Lionel, passed away unexpectedly in January 1979, but “Auntie Sugar” continued to run the day care on her own for another five years. In 1984, she married Raymond Laquerre, a retired Nashua fire fighter, who predeceased her in January 2015. After closing the day care, she spent over twenty-five years helping in the community.

Sugar was a devout Catholic and avid volunteer. As a parishioner of the former Saint Francis Xavier Church, she served on the social, finance, cemetery, and bereavement committees. Sugar was also a parishioner of Saint Aloysius of Gonzaga Parish. She volunteered at the Parish Nurse Center for Wellness at Milette Manor blood pressure clinic and the Edward V. Karg Day Away program.

Throughout her life, Sugar was a devoted and compassionate daughter, sister, niece, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, auntie, and friend.

Sugar is survived by her two sons, Phillip Ouellette and his wife Alecia of Oviedo, FL, and Victor Ouellette and his wife Louise of Chester, NH; and her three grandchildren Jeremiah and Emily Ouellette of Oviedo, FL, and Nicole Ouellette of Everett, MA. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
