Lee Lupica

Jun 13, 2023

Lee Lupica of Nashua passed quietly and gently away at the Benchmark Senior Living facility at Nashua Crossings on May 29, just two months and two days after the passing of her loving husband, Bene, at the same facility at the end of March. It was the ending of a love story that had both endured and flourished through the 72 years of their marriage.

Lee, 95 at the time of her death, was born Lena Jane Loguidice in Canastota, N.Y. on Nov. 18, 1928. She was raised there by her father, Augustine and mother Frances, and loved telling people that she had gone to grade school with the great champion boxer Carmen Basilio. Her sister, Peggy Loguidice DiVeronica, whose husband Anthony still lives in Canastota, predeceased Lee in 2014, as did her brother Angelo in 2018.

Bene and Lee Lupica were married in St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota on August 12, 1950. Their son, Michael, was born two years later, followed by a daughter, Susan. Lee took pride in the children she and Bene raised, but not nearly as much pride as both son and daughter took in their parents, who more than anything taught them kindness.

“Mom once told me that the thing about which she took most pride when my sister and I were growing up was being home every time we walked through the door from school,” Mike Lupica said of his mother. “And believe me, we both knew how lucky we were.”

Lee Lupica is remembered as a wonderful mother, and grandmother to her six grandchildren: Christopher, Alex, Zach and Hannah Lupica, and Matthew and Joshua Galardi. Her first great grandson, Charles Michael, was born to Christopher and his wife Kim on Jan. 21. In so many ways, the little boy became the last great love of her life.

But not as great a love as her husband, Bene. Theirs was a great and lasting love story. They moved to Nashua from Oneida, N.Y. in 1964, and lived in their house on Ohio Ave. for 58 years, until moving to Benchmark Senior Living in August of last year, where they were visited so frequently by dear friends former neighbors like John and Judie Fisher, Bob and Ruth Ann Burke, Mary Levine, Eileen Stewart, Deb Cote, Vicki Skotz, Jack and Jane Sullivan, and Maureen and Dan Fowler. They were all part of their beautiful and fabulous village. At the time of both their deaths, they were still honorary members at Nashua Country Club.

Her family and friends all take great consolation now in knowing that Lee is now back to the place she always most wanted to be: With Bene.
