Douglas Whitford Morgan

May 24, 2023

Douglas Whitford Morgan passed away peacefully at the age of 68 on April 14, 2023. He was born in Levittown, NY, on July 12, 1954, and spent his childhood in New Hampshire, New York, and Maryland. He was the son of William Evans Morgan and Sarah Whitford Morgan of Stevensville, MD.

Doug made beauty.

While he followed an eclectic path–artist, writer, singer, contractor, woodworker, furniture designer–one unifying theme was that when Doug started working on something, the world was a little more beautiful when he was done. Whether it was crafting nautical woodwork, writing original songs or sharing his talents as a mentor to troubled adolescents, Doug wasn’t just working, he was giving a piece of himself to all of us.

Of all his talents, music was Doug’s true passion. He was a gifted musician who played the guitar, piano, and harmonica from the heart. Doug spent many years as a full-time professional musician, playing in clubs and restaurants in the Annapolis area. He enjoyed performing in the open air and had a devoted following of friends and fans.

In his early twenties, he found comfort in his faith and became deeply spiritual, describing his relationship with God as a “walking, talking, thinking kind of prayer life.” He lived his life guided by his faith.

Doug believed in the power of love, loyalty, redemption, and forgiveness, and he cherished his family and friends. He will be remembered by his children for his kindness, empathy, and willingness to listen. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Doug was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Bill. He is survived by his brother Jim and his wife Jean, his sister Ginny, her step- children and grand-children, his brother Bob and his wife Pam, their children Bailey and Casey, his daughter Sarean and her husband Josh, their children Evie and Zeke, and his son Jesse, his wife, and their children. In his final months, Doug received unwavering support from his entire family.

Doug’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate and attentive staff at Gilchrist Hospice in Maryland. They also express their deep appreciation to Ann, Christina, Johnathan, and Roger for their friendship, kindness, and support. Doug will be laid to rest with his parents and ancestors in Long Hill Cemetery, Salisbury, MA.
