John F. Cavanaugh

John F. Cavanaugh, 87, of Nashua, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH with his family by his side. Born in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late John S. Cavanaugh and Corinne (Levasseur) Cavanaugh. He grew up in Falmouth Maine, graduating from Falmouth High School in 1953.

John later married his high school sweetheart, Mary (Perkins) Cavanaugh, of Springvale, Maine, eventually moving his family to Hudson, NH where in 1966, he began his 15 year restaurant career with Pizza By Giovanni, expanding to Giovanni’s Restaurant, and ending with The Straw Hat. John then continued his career in sales for Advanced Circuit Technology, retiring in 2000.

During the next 20 years, John and his wife drove between New Hampshire and Arizona enjoying time with family and friends, always finding time for his favorite woodworking and landscaping hobbies. He was a source of endless amusement as a master storyteller and his friendly demeanor would put a smile on anyone’s face.

John’s family includes his wife of 68 years, Mary, his son Larry and wife Lillian of Mesa, Arizona, daughter Lyn and husband David Nelson of Nashua, NH, granddaughters Lea Cavanaugh, Emmary & Alianna Nelson, great-granddaughter Layne Cavanaugh, sister Janet (Cavanaugh) Morton, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Jane (Cavanaugh) Foster, brother William Cavanaugh, and sister Susan (Cavanaugh) VanLonkhuysen.

In honor of John’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
