Lt. Col. Daniel E. Hogan

Mar 27, 2023

Lt. Col. Daniel Edward Hogan, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Hogan was born in Nashua on November 11, 1931 to Austin Henry Hogan Junior and Andrea (Lavoie) Hogan. He was born on Veterans Day and dedicated his life to serving others. He was known for his gentle spirit, his kindness, and his love of country, family and his Catholic faith.

He attended Sacred Heart School from 1937 to 1946 and graduated from Nashua High School in 1949. He attended the University of New Hampshire, graduating in the class of 1953. While a student at UNH, he served as president of the Catholic Newman Club, captain of the track team, and developed a life-long interest in the sport of pole-vaulting.

After completing Air Force ROTC at UNH, Lt. Col. Hogan entered the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He continued his 26 year career as a Fighter Pilot and Jet Instructor. He flew 282 combat missions during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, among many other awards.

After his tour in Vietnam, he spent two years at the University of Colorado earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He was then stationed in South Carolina and at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, until his retirement in 1979.

When he returned to Nashua, he became a social studies teacher at Nashua Catholic Junior High School, eventually serving as business administrator at Bishop Guertin High School. After he retired from BG, he was a volunteer track coach at Nashua High South and Nashua High North coaching the pole-vault event for more than twenty years. He was an annual participant in the March for Life and was dedicated to all Pro-Life activities. Dan was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and he shared that fun with his family.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judith (O’Connor) Hogan, and his three children, Margaret Hogan Anderson (Clifford), Daniel E. Hogan II (Merrilee), and Stephen P. Hogan (Daniela). Grandchildren Liam J. Anderson, Conor P. Anderson, Ellis B. Hogan and August M. Hogan. Sister Mary Hensel, brothers James Hogan (Marilyn) and Donald Hogan (Sandra).
