Mar 3, 2023

The Honorable Doris Rae MacIntyre, 81, of St. Augustine, FL passed away on January 17, 2023, at Symphony Assisted Living in St. Augustine Florida, peacefully, after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and Emphysema. She succumbed to these after a steady sad period of decline. She waited until she heard from all her family members before she joined her beloved husband Mal in Heaven for her eternal rest.

She was born on October 26, 1941, in Chicago IL to the late L.D. Swanner and Virginia (Craig) Ledford. Doris was predeceased by her loving Husband of 60 years, Mal MacIntyre, 10 days shy of one year ago.

She is survived locally in Merrimack, NH, by her two children, Carrie Lynn Atkinson, and Scott Craig MacIntyre, and his wife Patricia Anne (Manning) MacIntyre. Doris (Nana) is also survived by her five loving granddaughters, Emily Atkinson and Allison Atkinson of Saint Augustine, FL; Mikayla MacIntyre of East Boston, MA; Jennifer MacIntyre and Grace MacIntyre of Merrimack NH. Besides her parents, Doris is also predeceased by her stepfather Donald Ledford, and brother Gordon Ledford, and is survived by one sibling, her brother Steven Ledford of Addison, Illinois.

Doris and her late husband Malcolm were long-time residents of Merrimack and shared many residences that they enjoyed. They began their life journey together in Dolton, Illinois, moved to Williamsville, New York, and finally to Merrimack, NH for 48 years. They also enjoyed entertaining at their summer lake house in Shapleigh Maine on Mousam Lake, affectionately called camp “Run-a-Muck”.

In 2002, they bought their Disney condo in Davenport, Florida to have a place for her children and grandchildren to stay when they visited her favorite place in the country – Disney World! They built their final dream home in St. Augustine, Florida, four years ago.

The Honorable Doris Rae MacIntyre was a two-term elected official to the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1994-1998. While in the house, she served as a member of the Correction and Criminal Justice Committee, and prior to that she was president of the Merrimack Federated Republican’s Women’s Club from 1992-1993. She was very active in many groups such as Merrimactors, and Reeds Ferry Women, and was a long-time parishioner of St. James United Methodist Church. Doris also worked for many years at the Country Gourmet Restaurant (now Buckley’s) located in Merrimack NH where she loved interacting with the public and made life-long friends with her coworkers all while being the face of, and exuding the class of, such a fine dining experience.

Doris’ legacy was that she was the best Wife, Mother, and Nana, and lived her life on her terms without regret. Her truest joy came from being Nana to her five granddaughters and spending as much time as possible with her beloved family. She loved deeply and was truly loved by many and will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.

There will be calling hours on Saturday, March 11th at St. James United Methodist Church, 646 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM with a service to follow from 12:00 to 12:30 at this same location. After the service, a “celebration-of-life” toast for Doris will take place at The Common Man Restaurant located in Merrimack at 304 Daniel Webster Hwy. A luncheon will follow.
