Robert Bloomfield
Robert “Bob” Edward Bloomfield, 91 Amherst, NH passed away in the early morning of February 10th, 2023 at Community Hospice House of Merrimack.
Bob was born on February 14, 1931, in Belmont, Massachusetts to Harold H. Bloomfield & Elizabeth (Hoeft) Bloomfield. Raised in Belmont with his older brother Harold and younger sister Doris, he graduated from Belmont High School. He enrolled at Fitchburg State with the graduating class of ’54. It was there where Bob met his future wife Claire Lanthier, who he married on May 5th, 1956 in Milford, NH. Bob continued his education at the University of Connecticut graduating with his Master’s and CAGS in the Industrial Arts, then attending Rutgers Graduate school of Education.
In between his education, Bob happily joined the Marines in 1952-1954 and then again in 1956-1958. After his time in the Marines, Bob started a family with Claire Bloomfield; they had two daughters, Victoria E. (Bloomfield) Lewis, and Priscilla M. (Bloomfield) Gorveatt. Bob worked as a teacher of Industrial Arts at Saddle Brook High School in New Jersey. After he became an Associate Professor of Industrial Arts and Industrial Education at Kean University, formerly known as Newark State College. Bob moved the family to Amherst, NH in 1969 to place permanent roots and be the President of New Hampshire Vocational Technical College until he retired from the position in 1996.
During retirement, Bob and Claire took pleasure in traveling to various places across North America. Bob also found great satisfaction working in his shop where he became a master carpenter. When he was not in his shop, he was out tending to the garden with Claire. In his spare time, Bob found his way back to teaching by instructing a driver’s safety course for AARP. Later in life, Bob valued anytime he got to share stories over a drink with family and friends. Most of all, Bob had great happiness in spending time with his family.
Bob was predeceased by Claire on September 2nd, 2009. He is also predeceased by his son-in-law Ronald K. Lewis on October 4th, 2022.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Victoria (Bloomfield) Lewis, and Priscilla (Bloomfield) Gorveatt, and her husband Mark Gorveatt. Survived by his grandchildren; Wendi (Duguay) Ocasio and her husband Juan Ocasio, Todd Duguay and his wife Leighanne Duguay, Keith Lewis and his fiancee Colin Lynch, Sydney Lewis and one great-grandson Trey Overacker, a Niece Lisa Bloomfield – Bortz, and several more nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family with the assistance of Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Cremation. Bob will be laid to rest next to Claire at Forest Hill Cemetery in Derry NH. The family of Bob would like to thank the Community Hospice House of Merrimack, St. Joseph Hospital, and Veterans affairs.
