William “Bill” D. Dobbs, Sr.

William “Bill” D. Dobbs Sr., 82, of Merrimack passed away on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua after a period of declining health.

He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on July 27th, 1940 to the late Allen and Helen (Noblett) Dobbs. Bill was raised on the family farm outside of Temple, OK where he graduated from Temple High School in 1957. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics. He later received a Master’s Degree in Physics from Texas A&I University.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1968 as a Naval Flight Officer which took him to various Naval Flight installations in Florida, Texas, and Maine. In 1968 Bill left active duty but continued to serve as a Flight Officer in the US Naval Reserves at South Weymouth Naval Air Station. He ultimately retired with the rank of Captain in 1985.

While stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station in Brunswick, ME, Bill met the love of his life, and wife of 57 years, Anita P. Dobbs. After active military service, Bill worked for Sanders Associates (now BAE Systems) in Nashua, New Hampshire where he worked for many years until his retirement in 2004.

Bill enjoyed woodworking and in his retirement years he became an accomplished wood carver. He was also an avid reader, and enjoyed discussing current events, science, and technology. Bill’s favorite pastime was being a husband to Anita, and a grandfather to his 5 grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Bill was pre-deceased by his wife of 57 years, Anita (Parker) Dobbs on December 27th, 2022, and by a brother, James Dobbs.

He will be forever loved and remembered by his two children, William Dobbs Jr. and his wife Lisa, and Amanda and her husband Dr. Peter Kasyjanski; five grandchildren, William III, and Sarah Dobbs and Jack, Emma and Austin Kasyjanski; two siblings, Betty and her husband John Loftin and Robert Dobbs and his wife Vickie along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack NH on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM with burial to follow in Last Rest Cemetery in Merrimack. A memorial service will be held at the Nashua Church of Christ, 97 Farley Road, Nashua NH at 12:30 PM.
