Todd Joseph Berube

Jan 17, 2023

Todd Joseph Berube passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on January 9, 2023. Todd was born on July 19, 1974, the younger of two sons born to Arthur and Diana Berube of Amherst NH.

Todd is survived by his loving family including his partner and children, his parents, his brother and family, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Todd graduated from Milford Area Senior High School in 1992 and went on to attend Johnson & Wales University for culinary arts. It wasn’t long after that however, that he realized his true calling was serving as a First Responder. He joined Amherst Fire Department for a short time, and from there joined Milford Ambulance as an EMT and Milford Fire Department as a Call Firefighter. In 2002, he joined the Hudson Fire Department as a full time Firefighter. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on January 29, 2017. He was also a member of the Litchfield Fire Department, where he served as a Call Firefighter and Paramedic since January 2020. He also served as Litchfield’s Fire Rescue Training Officer until recently and earned Litchfield’s “Firefighter of the Year Award 2021”. Each year, Todd would participate in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. He also trained and taught the Hudson Fire Department Explorers and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with the younger generation. Todd’s dedication to his profession was evident and he was looked up to by all who knew and worked with him in various capacities. Throughout his career, Todd received numerous awards and commendations from every department he served on. His impressive culinary skills were put to good use and much appreciated by those who served alongside him.

Nicknames seemed to find Todd – from the time he was young he was known as “Buddy” to his family and many friends. During the course of his public service career he also became known as “Woody” to his fellow firefighters and friends. Those closest to him will fondly remember how these names came about.

Besides his passion for firefighting and serving the public, Todd was known for his love of jeeping and riding his motorcycle, his love of entertaining and that amazing ability he had to cook up delicious food on a moment’s notice, his zest for life and love of his family, his unselfish, humble and giving spirit, and perhaps most of all, his wacky sense of humor. Any day spent with Todd was a day you would be doubled over in laughter.

Words cannot express the void he leaves in the lives of those who loved him.

Until we meet again Buddy — Byyyyyyeeeeee.

A Celebration of Todd’s Life will be held for the public on Wednesday, January 25th from 2pm – 5pm in the Hudson Community Center, 12 Lions Ave. in Hudson. Burial will be private. The Hudson Firefighter’s Relief Association has graciously set up a GoFundMe page for “The Berube Family”
