Richard Fred Tatro Sr.
Richard Fred Tatro Sr. died Sept. 24, 2022, at his home in Newport, New Hampshire. He was born in 1932 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and remained there until graduating from St. Johnsbury High and Vermont Technical School. After graduation, he relocated to Litchfield, New Hampshire, where he raised their family. He went on to be a lifelong auto body technician and was a master in his craft. His knack for designing, painting and back-in-the-day pin-stripping was amazing.
His children and some of their friends were so lucky to have bikes and vehicles that adorned “one-of-the-kind” artwork. He was employed at many different auto body shops, and his last was Boyer’s Auto Body in Hudson, New Hampshire. After retiring from auto body, he spent many years doing maintenance and landscaping for different Realtors in Greater Nashua. When fully retired, he spent the winters in Florida, which he loved.
Richard was a very quiet, kind-hearted man who loved his family dearly and always had a smile. If not with his family, he preferred to be “putzing” around his home or in his garage. He continued to dabble in his trade by refurbishing and painting antique toys. A tricycle is still being enjoyed by great-grandchildren. He also loved antique cars, diners, and was never without a dog at his feet.
Richard leaves behind his wife, Edith, of 42 years. He also is survived by his daughter, Erlyan Huntington and her husband, Jeff; a son, Richard Tatro Jr. and his wife, Evelyn; a son, Charles Tatro and his wife, Brenda; his daughter, Brenda Tatro and her husband, John; a son, Fred Tatro and his wife, Kathy; and a daughter, Robin Trembly. He had 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who brought him much joy. He will be missed terribly. We were fortunate to be able to celebrate his 90th birthday four days prior to his passing.
There will be no public viewing, at his request, and a private graveside service will be in St Johnsbury, where he will be laid to rest with his parents.
