Alvin R. Bonnette

Alvin R. Bonnette, 95, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, after a period of declining health. Alvin, known as “Rex” to most, was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Dec. 30, 1926, the son of the late David I. and Andrea Y. (Cote) Bonnette.

He grew up in Nashua, and at an early age showed a knack for business, shining shoes and selling papers. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served for two years through the end of World War II. Using the GI Bill, he studied drafting and continued in the trade of carpentry, first learned from his father. He went on to be a general contractor for more than 50 years in Nashua, and was the owner of Nashua Lumber Company Inc.

During his retirement, Rex enjoyed spending time in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida, and Aruba. He also enjoyed investing and was the president of the Bull Ring Investment Club for many years.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Beckwith) Bonnette, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage; his second wife, Dona-May (Bellavance) Bonnette, with whom he shared 18 years of marriage; his brother, Leo Bonnette; and sister, Elaine Sarbeck.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Putnam and her husband, Kurt, of Tigard, Oregon; his son, Stephen Bonnette and his wife, Joan, of Nashua, New Hampshire; his son, Peter Bonnette and his wife, Lisa; his daughter, Wendy Dohanian, and her husband, Richard, of Kansas City, Missouri; his daughter, Amy Nendza of Nashua, New Hampshire; his son, Michael Bonnette and wife, Lori, of Hollis, New Hampshire; and his daughter, Laurie Williams and her husband, Paul, of Merrimack, New Hampshire. He also is survived by his beloved companion Edna Lord of Nashua and his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry St., Hudson NH 03051. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 62 Manchester St. Nashua, N.H. All may please meet at church. Burial to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 102 Derry Road Hudson, N.H. 03051.
