Ruth (Manuel) Upham
NASHUA, N.H. – Ruth (Manuel) Upham, 92, a resident of the Hunt Community in Nashua, died peacefully at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center on Aug. 3, 2022.
She was the daughter of Abigail and Henry Manuel, born in Medford, Massachusetts, on Feb. 9, 1930. She grew up in Medford; moved to Reading, Massachusetts, after marriage, where she raised her children; and retired to her husband’s hometown of Lisbon Falls, Maine.
Ruth was the wife of George Randall Upham, whom she married in 1958. They shared more than 60 years of marriage before George passed away in 2019.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved reading, knitting, sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
While living in Nashua, she attended The First Church, U.C.C. (Congregational).
Mrs. Upham is survived by her sister, Jean Clark of Melrose, Massachusetts; her children and their partners, Gail Upham and John Honeycutt of Fallbrook, California, Susan Upham and Joan Bresnick of Canton, Maine, Barbara and Mike Shannon of Hollis, New Hampshire, and Randall and Kay Upham of Concord, Massachusetts; and her six grandchildren, Carolyn and Alexander Honeycutt, Erin and Abigail Shannon and Peter and Andrew Upham.
A funeral service in her honor will be in the Shaw Chapel of The First Church U.C.C., 1 Concord St., in Nashua on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. Interment prayers and burial will be in Maine in the fall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lisbon Ridge Cemetery in Lisbon Falls, Maine, the Hunt Scholarship fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. The cemetery was a personal project for both George and Ruth. It was adjacent to the family farm in Maine. They donated land and helped maintain it for years.
