Leslie Burton Haley

Jul 29, 2022

Leslie Burton Haley of Hollis passed away at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center on July 21, 2022. The son of Burton Haley and Doris Sponagle, he was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on Feb. 8, 1942. He grew up in Kittery, Maine, at the Haley farm.

He went to school in Kittery and attended the University of New Hampshire. There, he met his first wife, Sylvia Fortune. They divorced in 1981 and he married Geraldine “Gerry” Zandi in 1986 and inherited four children in the bargain.

Les had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. He never met anyone he didn’t like and everyone who met him, liked him. Les rode motorcycles, built and flew radio controlled model airplanes, played tennis and loved cars. He was an ardent Patriots and Red Sox fan and loved animals. His grandson, Noah, nicknamed him “Zigga Zigga,” which translates to “Super Grandpa,” a perfect name for a wonderful man.

He worked in the software industry at Wang Labs and Fidelity Investments.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gerry, and his stepchildren, Stephen and his wife, Karin, Jeannie, Kathy and John Zandi; grandchildren, Kodiak, Colter, Levi, Sophia, Noah and Audrey; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Haley and Augusto Salazar; brother-in-law, Robert Mack, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his sister, Cheryl Mack, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Center Zandi.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a place near to his heart, the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, where he was a volunteer for 14 years.
